Traditional candles are made with paraffin wax which is a by-product of the petroleum industry and should be considered a non-renewable energy source. When burned they release carcinogenic toxins such as benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein and soot into the air. The emissions from paraffin candles contain many of the same toxins produced by burning diesel fuel.
Annual statistics from the NFPA & USFA report candles cause an estimated 15,600 fires in residential structures, 150 civilian fire deaths, 1270 civilian fire injuries and $539 million in direct property damage in the USA each year. They also estimate that 30+ % of these fatal candle fires occurred in dwellings where the electric power had been disconnected or where there was a power outage.

There are many causes of accidental candle fires:
First, many traditional candles pose the risk of an accidental fire during late-stage burning. This occurs when the candle burns down to the base and ignites combustible material under or near the base of the candle. Kevin’s Kandles by design make it virtually impossible to allow the flame or wick to come in proximity of combustibles near the base.
Second and most importantly, many traditional candle fires occur when the candle tips over for various reasons; wind, pets, kids, unattended etc… Kevin’s Kandles when tipped over will normally go out.
A package of Kevin’s Kandles costing MSRP less than $10.00 USD and contains sufficient supplies to create 100 candles. Factoring in the average cost of vegetable oil in North America will provide the consumer with 100 - 10 hour candles for less than 25¢ per candle. There is no other candle on the market at this low price. It is conceivable that you, as a consumer would only require one package in your lifetime. If the consumer decides to use these candles instead of traditional candles in a non-power failure situation as a means to improve their safety – so much the better.

Kevin’s Kandles are being distributed in North America with a focus on providing a better and safer alternative to emergency candles presently available. This is very important, as experience has shown that the average family has approximately one hour of battery powered illumination at their disposal. During extended power failures people tend to become creative with their methods of illumination, often jeopardizing their safety.
Think of the impact that these candles could easily have on the number of accidental fires in your community each year. This product should be attractive to anyone having a desire to equip their home with a convenient source of safer emergency illumination during power failures.

Fire prevention and fire safety is our driving force. In addition to the retail market, Kevin’s Kandles is proud to provide a special program for Fire Departments interested in distributing these candles as a fund raiser. ( contact: vfd@asafercandle.com for details)
This is a Win-Win situation that enables you to raise money for your department while at the same time reducing the potential of accidental candle fires in your community.

These candles are also available in bulk to the international market with the intent of providing them in Third World Countries. Think of the potential of providing these safer candles to the people in Africa as an example where most areas are without electricity. They provide a safer means of illumination at a fraction of the cost of traditional candles. Important in countries where the Gross National Income averages $1. / day.
A fantastic tool for the United Nations, UNHCR, FEMA, and all Humanitarian Relief Organizations.
Each pack of Kevin’s Kandles contains 100 – 10 hour candles, enough to provide a family with 3+ months of illumination. A carton measuring 15 x 15 x 20” and weighing 22 pounds contains 500 packs of candles providing the end user with 50,000 candles. A 40 foot shipping container holds 648 boxes, providing an equivalent of 324,000 packs or 32,400,000 candles. Compare this to the logistics of shipping and storing the same amount of traditional candles will fortify the importance of this new concept in emergency candles.
